HC Ice Skating in P.E.

Skating is a wonderful lifetime activity, and we are very fortunate to have an outdoor ice rink on which we can practice and learn. Highcroft students in grades K-5 will begin ice skating in Physical Education classes on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, provided the weather cooperates and the rink is ready. We hope to continue skating through Friday, January 29, weather permitting.

On Tuesday, January 5, be sure to send your child to school with sharp, comfortable, single-blade skates marked with your child’s name. Please check to be sure the skates fit; it is very helpful for the student to practice putting on his or her own skates over Winter Break before we begin skating on January 5. Your child will need a hat, gloves or mittens, a jacket and snow pants, skate guards or a bag to hold skates. Students in kindergarten and first grade will have a designated spot to store their skating gear near the gym. Students in second through fifth grades will need their skating equipment to be easily stored in or above their cubbies.

To be as safe as possible, all students must wear a helmet for skating. Students who do not have a helmet will not be allowed on the ice. Please adjust the helmet to fit your child before sending it to school. If your child’s ears are exposed, he or she will not be able to skate! Make sure your child comes prepared with proper ear coverage!

The Blake School has an inventory of skates and helmets on hand that you are welcome to borrow. In addition, be sure to check the Parent Association sponsored Skate and Helmet Swap boxes in the front lobby for equipment that will work for your child.
Our outdoor ice skating unit depends on winter weather. If we need to move the start or end dates for our skating unit, we will keep you informed via email and through Bear Essentials.

We eagerly look forward to a safe and pleasant outdoor month. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with us.

Sincerely,

LS Physical Education Teachers:
